The Algerian-born star
Sofia Boutella was born in the Bab El Oued district of Algiers. When Sofia was 10, she left Algeria with her family and moved to France. This happened amid the Algerian Civil War. About it she had told Vanity Fair, “Times were hard for my country when I was young. France had more opportunities, so we left.” She was born to Safy Boutella, a jazz musician and an architect mother.
The stunning Sofia Boutella is a multi-talented star. She is a dancer, musician, model and an actress. She completed her graduation from Berklee College of Music. In an interview with Bazaar she had said, “I grew up in a very beautiful way, in a family that always encouraged me, and my calling to be artistic. We were raised to be open-minded, creative, to use our imaginations.”
A born dancer
At the age of 5, Sofia Boutella started with classical dance. She confessed in an interview with the Vanity Fair that how her parents took her for ballet class. She was quoted saying as, “I was a show-off, so they took me to ballet class.” From the age of 17, Sofia started to groove with with choreographer Blanca Li. Sofia is widely known for hip hop and street dance.
It happened in the year 2007 when she was selected for Jamie King choreography for Nike. It did not take much time for her to get noticed by the biggies. She then got the golden opportunity to work with celebs like Madonna and Rihanna. Then of course the dance film ‘Street Dance 2’ happened in which she played the lead.
